I am working from files recovered from an advanced hard drive.
While JPEG Recovery does an excellent job of automatically restoring some damaged jpegs or allowing one to try to recover them manually, there are a few problem areas that might be included on an Advanced menu in the editor.
1. When trying to Append to some top jpegs that have a clear break (no garbage on the bottom) Jpeg Recovery will subtract a half a line or so from the top image. Therefore it becomes impossible to merge with the bottom half because this data is lost.
Need an overide command to tell the program this is a Special case so it will not discard this part of the top jpeg when appending.
2. Some jpegs have extra garbage or images on the bottom, especially after being appended to restore a complete image. When trying to get rid of this garbage Jpeg Recovery will ruin the last line of the restored jpeg by subtracting a part of it.
A command to tell Jpeg Recovery that this is part of the good recovered image and everything below can be safely removed would help.
Example: Click on the end pixel area of the recovered jpeg and discard everything below as garbage. (I know this is tricky, as there is alway one extra end pixel area in the line below the actual viewed image. Jpeg Recovery could be smart enough to leave this one extra pixel area on the end as normal. Allow for an Undo if needed.
And/Or: Allow the user to manually remove this garbage starting from the bottom.
3. While using the To and From clicks removes a lot of mismatched pictures quickly, I have observed that Jpeg Recovery becomes more cautious and only removes a "chunk" of static garbage at a time. This is good because sometimes a line or two of good data is mixed up in the static and "pops out"
However, there are times when it is apparent that the jpeg is clearly broken into two or more pieces and that the static in between is really garbage. I have sometimes had to click the the To an From eight or nine hundred times to get to the next part.
An Express To and From click button would really help. Jpeg Recovery could still clear one block of bad data at a time and stop at 4000's errors if needed, while I get a cup of coffee.
4. A nice Jpeg Recovery icon for my desktop!
