Q.What is the primary use of the software?
A.

In some circumstances, some pictures recovered by recovery software will contain some garbage in the picture.  These garbage may be:

  • Part of another picture
  • Unknown stuff

Sometimes, after the recovery processing, your picture may be split into multiple parts, for example, the top portion in a picture, middle portion in the middle of another picture, and the bottom at the bottom of the third picture.

If you have picture(s) in the above condition, JPEG Recovery tries to help you to recover your original picture. The software provides a handy way for you to combine different pictures and remove the unwanted garbage from the picture.

Q.What is the difference between Basic and Professional Version?
A.

Basic version covers the Bulk Recovery Processor only. Professional version covers both Bulk Recovery Processor and JPEG Recovery Editor.

Functions provided in JPEG Recovery Editor include:

  • Remove mingled data
  • Combine photo if it has split into 2 or more files
  • Align border and color if there is pixel and/or color shift
  • Undo and redo

You may also refer to our features or download page for details.

Q.What are the conditions that my picture can be recovered?
A.
  • The picture is recovered using picture recovery software e.g. Easy Photo Recovery.
  • All details of your pictures must be present; no matter the details are in one or more JPEG files.

Q.I have photos with similar problem but they were recovered by software from other companies. Can you help?
A.

If your photos were recovered by photo recovery software, JPEG Recovery should be able to recover the photos.

Nevertheless, please try the trial version before making your purchase decision.

Q.I have photos with similar problem but they were recovered from hard disk instead of removable devices. Can you help?
A.

JPEG picture recovered from hard disk is far more dynamic and unknown.  JPEG Recovery should be able to recover the photos if the picture exhibits similar problems and meet the recovery conditions described previously. The successful rate greatly depends on the quality of pictures recovered.

Nevertheless, please try the trial version before your purchase decision.

Q.I have 2 JPEG files. One of them contains the upper portion of a photo and the other contains the lower portion. Can you help?
A.

JPEG Recovery supports combining 2 pictures into 1 in the JPEG Recovery Editor. Under this scenario, manual removal of unwanted data must be involved.

If all necessary data of that photo can be gathered from those 2 files, then most probably the original photo can be restored.  As our trial version also incorporates this feature, you may verify whether your photo is restored before you purchase JPEG Recovery.

In rare occasion a photo may be separated into 3 or more files.  In this case, combine the first 2 files into 1, and then repeat the process until all portions are merged into a single photo.

Q.If I have a corrupted JPEG picture, and the corruption is due to other reason rather than data recovery, can you help?
A.

If the picture is corrupted due to other reason (e.g. bad sector of disk), most probably our software will not help.

Nevertheless, you may also try the trial version and determine whether JPEG Recovery helps.

Q.Will JPEG Recovery modify my original data in the photo or picture?
A.

JPEG Recovery will not modify any data in your photo or picture. JPEG Recovery also will not perform any compression nor re-compression to your picture.

Thus, all data in your original photo or picture (for example dimension, color, quality, precision, quantization, progressive or not) will be identical to the original one. In some occasions we may remove the Exif/IPTC data, however, this will not affect the quality of your original photo or picture.

No re-compression is important because JPEG is a "lossy" compression and the picture will lose some quality each time it is re-compressed (for example, open it in Paint, make some changes and save it).

Q.I can view my photo in the preview of Open Window dialog box. However, the image is broken after being opened. Why?
A.

Most of the JPEG images taken by digital camera contain a thumbnail at the beginning of the file.  When a low resolution image is required, most of the software (e.g. Windows Explorer) display the thumbnail.  However, the actual contents of the file may be corrupted.

You may download and try our sample SAMPLE1.JPG (right click to save the picture to your hard disk). You will find that the thumbnail displayed by Windows Explorer is completely different from the image displayed by other software (e.g. Windows Picture Viewer or Internet Explorer).

Q.In evaluation version, how can I view the quality and details of the recovered image?
A.

If you are using the 'bulk scanning' mode, the thumbnails of the images should be shown in the screen. You may save the images and examine the results. Please note that in evaluation version, the saved images will have watermark, and the JPEG quality will be lower than the original picture.

Alternatively, if you are evaluating the JPEG Recovery Professoinal Version, you may simply double click the thumbnail and the JPEG Recovery Editor will be launched. The image shown in the JPEG Recovery Editor will have higher resolution, and it should be the same as the recovered image.

Q.JPEG Recovery suggested an auto-fix but the fix was not correct. What can I do?
A. You may simply press the Undo button and the auto-fix will be undone.

Q.Sometimes I got internal error 4000, 4001, 4002 or 4003. What is it?
A.

Internal error 4000 to 4003 indicates that the JPEG picture contains invalid encoded data.

If there are changes made to the picture, try to undo some steps and try again. If the picture is freshly loaded or there is no more undo step, then most likely JPEG Recovery cannot recover the picture because the picture contains invalid encoded data, or in a special JPEG format that JPEG Recovery does not support.

Q.Do you guarantee that my corrupted photo can be recovered?
A.

There are many different reasons why a picture is corrupted.

We cannot guarantee that every problem picture can be recovered as the file must contain all valid data to make the recovery successful in JPEG Recovery. If the file is corrupted and does not contain all necessary data, there is no way to recover the original image using JPEG Recovery.

Thus, we highly recommend you to try before you buy, and check whether your picture can be recovered.

Q.I have a corrupted picture that the trial version cannot recover. Will the registered version be able to recover it?
A. Our registered version is identical to the trial version except the output picture will contain a watermark.  Thus, if the trial version cannot recover your picture, the registered version also will NOT recover your picture.

Q.Any recommendations if JPEG Recovery can't help me to recover my corrupted pictures?
A.

There are numerous reasons causing a picture cannot be opened. JPEG Recovery just caters a few of them.

You may try searching the web and check whether there are other software that can help you. However, we don't have any recommendations that can be given to you.

If you still have the medium that the picture was originally resided (e.g. memory card, hard disk, etc) and suspect that the full set of data is still in the medium, you may try using different data recovery software to analyze it, and see whether one of them can rescue your picture.

Q.Some data of my picture were lost or overwritten by garbage. Can JPEG Recovery recover those data for me?
A.

No.

JPEG Recovery will only reconstructure and adjust your picture using the existing data in the file. JPEG Recovery will NOT invent nor deduce any missing pixel of the picture for you. If there are data lost, then those portion(s) can never be recovered.

A quick way to know whether there are data lost is to compare the file size your picture with the other pictures taken by same camera having same resolution. If the file size is significantly lower than the normal ones, then very likely some data are missing in the picture.

Q.I am interested in JPEG file format. Can you explain some details to me?
A.

The major steps of translating a bitmap (the common graphic format used in personal computer) to JPEG picture (and vice versa) involve color space transformation, sampling, Discrete Cosine Transform, Quantization, Zero Run Length Coding and Huffman Coding. Some of the steps are quite complex and difficult to be understood unless you have some technical background.

If you like to know more about JPEG, you may search 'JPEG file format' in common search engines, and you will get lots of information about JPEG. Moreover, there are numerous web sites illustrating how a JPEG picture is encoded or decoded.

Q.I am an administrator in Windows Vista but I can't register the application. Please help.
A.

In Windows Vista, User Account Control (UAC) and its Admin Approval Mode are enabled by default. When UAC is enabled, local administrator accounts run as standard user accounts. This means that when a member of the local Administrators group logs on, they run with their administrative privileges disabled.

You can logon using the BUILT-IN administrator account (which is disabled on new installations of Windows Vista) to register. Alternatively, read Windows Vista User Account Control Step by Step Guide at http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsVista/en/library/0d75f774-8514-4c9e-ac08-4c21f5c6c2d91033.mspx?mfr=true

This guide covers the following scenarios for UAC:

  • Scenario 1: Request an application to run elevated one time
  • Scenario 2: Mark an application to always run elevated
  • Scenario 3: Configure User Account Control

Q.I purchased Easy Photo Recovery and some of the recovered pictures need repair. Can I have JPEG Recovery for free?
A. Our Easy Photo Recovery has incorporated logic to recover as many pictures as possible without the need of being repaired. Thus, users of Easy Photo Recovery may find that they do not need JPEG Recovery.

On the other hand, non Easy Photo Recovery users may also interest in JPEG Recovery. In addition, putting JPEG Recovery into Easy Photo Recovery will inevitably raise the price of Easy Photo Recovery.

If you are interested in Easy Photo Recovery and JPEG Recovery, we can offer you a discount if both of them are purchased together. Please refer to our purchase section in our website for details.

Q.Would Easy Photo Recovery create excessive photos that require repair?
A.

We understand why some photos are corrupted and need repair, and our Easy Photo Recovery has incorporated logic to reduce such occurrence. This is one of the reasons why Easy Photo Recovery provides 2 recovery modes, and analyze the memory card before displaying the thumbnails.

We target that if Easy Photo Recovery is used, JPEG Recovery is not required.

However, the photo recovery processing is dynamic, depending on many factors like shooting sequence and camera brand/model. Thus, in some situations, problem photo would unavoidably be recovered by Easy Photo Recovery.

Q.Could I ask for a refund if I am not satisfied with the software?
A.

No. We maintain a strict no-refund policy.

Please perform trial and test the software, and evaluate the results thoroughly before making any purchase decision. No refund request will be entertained.

Q.In the purchase page, the license is limited for personal home use only. Any non home use license?
A.

If you intend to use JPEG Recovery for non personal/home use (e.g. collect fee from customer for JPEG photo repair), please contact our sales department and provide us with the intended usage and number of copies required. We will contact you the soonest after we have received your request.

Q.Any reasons that trigger you to implement JPEG Recovery?
A. You may read our story here if you are interested in our driving forces to implement JPEG Recovery.
